ACTIVITIES

PANGANI RIVER CRUISE

Discover the river that flows from Mount Kilimanjaro. Come across local fishermen on the banks searching for prawns and if you find some, you may even be able to buy a kilo or two. Admire the palm lined river and drink a coconut local brew with villagers. Especially delightful during sunset.

HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR

Take yourself back in time and onto an informative guided walk though the historical town of Pangani. Notorious for slave smuggling and trading routes along the coast, explore significant historical sites such as the slave market, sleepy Swahili India Street and the old port authority building along the river.

PANGARITHI HERITAGE CENTRE

What was once the Rehema Abdul House, the Pangarithi Heritage Centre exhibits Pangani from its early days as an ancient trade center up to the late 20th Century. Admire the archeological findings and the compelling photography showing the history of this charming Swahili town.

MAZIWE ISLAND MARINE RESERVE

Maziwe Marine Reserve hosts a sand island which is only revealed during low tide. It's surrounded by coral reefs and is located around 8 kms from Pangani's shores, making it a perfect day for snorkeling.

BICYCLE TOUR TO USHONGO BEACH

Cross the river and adventure through the bush to Ushongo beach. Along your way, why not stop by the friendly villages for some kahawa [coffee] and a chat with the locals? Once in Ushongo, relax under the palm trees, enjoy a seafood lunch or go for a swim in the bay. Return to Pangani before sundown.

SAADANI NATIONAL PARK

Delve into our wildlife and discover Saadani - where the bush meets the beach. Home to four of the big five, this is the only park in East Africa with an Indian Ocean beachfront. As well as a game drive, Saadani also gives you the option to go on a walking safari and a cruise along the Wami River... Just watch out for all the hippos and crocs!
